Why I Like 800 Numbers

Many of us have seen numerous 800 numbers in our daily lives. Whether it is a telemarketer calling or a business number, we have all seen it on our call waiting thing, some billboard, or countless other places. It can seem a bit annoying right? Why are there so many 800 service numbers and why do they keep calling my house? This is a common cry amongst many individuals. However, 800 service numbers are actually a good thing. Well not for random people like me and you, but for the company itself.

It turns out that using 800 service numbers for businesses is a good way to save money for them. We all know that 800 service numbers are free when you call them. Rarely, when you call though do you get an actual person. This saves businesses money because instead of paying a secretary to answer phones and organized messages, the 800 service number will automatically pick up calls and transfer calls to the appropriate person and it also takes messages. This is a lot cheaper than some secretary doing this same job. In addition, 800 service numbers help expand business. Instead of having some local number with a local area code, you can have an 800 service number. This allows for people all across the country to call your company at a toll free rate. Nobody wants to pay money when calling a certain company when they can do it for free right? Most people get discouraged when looking up a certain company and they see it has a foreign area code to it, with an 800 service number, no more discouragement. P
eople are more tempted to call because it is toll free and people are curious.

So the next time you see an 800 service number pop up on your caller ID or you see it on some big billboard, don´t get irritated. Just think, this company has gone out of its way to help people contact them at a toll free rate. They are trying to help themselves and you at the same time. This seems like a friendly situation to me.
